I found Along Came a Spider by James Patterson as a kid. I wasn't that interested until my grandmother told me it was too adult for me and that I couldn't read it. Then of course I HAD to read it! It's about the kidnapping of two kids and--at the time--I was around the same age as the kids; so as you can imagine, I was absolutely hooked. I finished the book in less than a week. So that was my first introduction to crime fiction! Made quite the impression!
