With the discovery that Selene can communicate with Prestoand that the Fae are ramping up their efforts in trying to invade the mortalworld, life shifts at Hale Hall. Whether it’s for better or worse, she can’ttell just yet. However, she knows that she’s caught in the middle of amaelstrom. Cullen is much more fond of her. Mrs. A keeps her commentsto herself, aside from a snide remark here and there, but Selene understandsthat she disapproves of the match even though Rowena seemed pleased. Meanwhile,Sheriff Andrew Fitts refuses to back down on his efforts to woo Selene, even ifthat means stepping on Cullen’s toes in the process. When a student from a nearby university is found dead on thecastle grounds, Selene is caught up in yet another investigation. Consideringthe student is a well-loved baseball player for the university team, the caseattracts a fair amount of media attention to the property, which is the lastthing Hale Hall needs in a time like this. At the same time, Selene starts having strange premonitionsafter her encounter with the handsome fae that has her on her toes. She senses that there are more weaknesses in the portal thatshe hasn’t considered. Where? It’s the million-dollar question, but she sensessomething amiss. Particularly, a small abandoned shack half a mile away fromHale Hall draws her in and refuses to let go. Cullen is closer, Sheriff Fitts wants to get closer, andJayne keeps wondering what is going on with her friend. At this point, Seleneasks herself the same question.
