Fresh from her victories in the north, Pharaoh Queen Hatusu has returned to Thebes to find sinister threats emerging from neighbouring province Nubia.
The Arites, a secret murderous sect, are waging bloody war against the Pharaoh. Imperial messengers and members of the Medjay, Egypt's elite army, are disappearing around the Oasis of Sinjar and now Imothep, formerly chief scout for the Spies of Sobeck, has been found strangled in a fortified room at his mansion.
